A passport with at least two blank pages, six months' validity, and a visa are required to enter Kenya. Single-entry visas are available online and upon arrival at Kenyan airports; however, Kenyan Immigration plans to end visas upon arrival in the future.

The Kenyan embassy offers the following types of visa:-

Single Journey Visa (SJV).

Good for most cases and allows you to enter Kenya once, and also for re-entry from other East African countries (Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi). It is valid for three months. A single Journey Visa (SJV) costs USD 50

Multiple Journey Visa (MJV)

It allows you to enter Kenya multiple times for up to a year. A Multiple Journey Visa (MJV) costs USD 100.

Transit Visa

Issued for periods not exceeding three days to persons whose nationalities require visas to enter Kenya and who intend to transit through Kenya to a different destination. A Transit Visa costs US 20.

Conditions for the Multiple Entry Visa are:

  1. The applicant must show proof of sufficient funds for staying in Kenya
  2. The applicant must possess a valid and confirmed return ticket
  3. Tour groups are not eligible to apply for Multiple Entry Visa.

The visa fee may vary for all countries.

How to apply

  1. Application in prescribed form must be submitted to the Immigration Department of Kenya.

  2. Application must be made in a Kenyan Consulate Embassy in your country.

  3. Requires personalized cover letter.

  4. Upon submission of application, the applicant is required to be interviewed by the Immigration Department subject to Police Vetting.

  5. Recommendation by Relevant Agency in Kenya must be submitted upon application.
